Junior Sailing School PDF Print E-mail

From its first junior program in 1953, WRSC has a long and successful history with young sailors, turning out some of best sailors in the country. Our instructors instill not only a respect for the water, but also teach the techniques and skills required to sustain a life-long passion for the sport, always keeping at the forefront the most important element of teaching young children – fun! Our program runs from mid-June through mid-August, Monday through Friday, for Junior Sailors ages 8 and up. Each week culminates with a special activity, be it a treasure hunt sail to High Island in the Rhode River or a quiet picnic to Round Bay to observe the horseshoe crabs hatching their young. Sailors are given the opportunity to participate in summer regattas around the Bay.

Parents of sailors participating in summer regattas are required to assist in some regatta transportation. The Sea Urchins program is for junior sailors who are 6 and 7 years old and is an introduction program to sailing on the water.
