Fleet History: |
| Fleet 46 at WRSC was formed in 1966 by Paul Parramore, Joe Willis, Bob Smith and Al Emmons. Activity in those days took placer mainly within the Potomac River Sailing Association. Jack Lynch, later WRSC Commodore, approached Mr. Parramore stating that the officers of the club were interested in having one designs at the club. The Jets thus became the first of the "modern" one design fleets to take up residence at the Club. |
| The Jet 14 Nationals were first held at West River in 1968. They have since been held there in 1973,1978, 1984, 1991.and 1998. Fleet 46 is considered to be one of the most competitive fleets with 6-time National Champs, Rhett and Celeste Simonds, 1st Junior and 3-time national Champ, Peter Jones, and 2-time national champ, Gary Smith. |
The Fleet Today: |
| Fleet 46 routinely hosts two major Jet regattas: the David Irey Memorial Regatta in June and the David Konigsberg Memorial Regatta in September. Both of these regattas enjoy a big turnout. Boats travel from as far away as North Carolina, Ohio, and New Jersey to attend. This year WRSC will host the National Championship in August with a clinic, followed by the Junior National Championship and the Women's National Championship. Check the West River Sailing Club Racing Schedule, below, for dates. |
| The annual WRSC Open House has drawn a big Jet turnout in the past. The fleet has been able to grow significantly by rounding up as many used, saleable boats as they can for the public to see at this event. The majority of new members coming into our fleet are in their 20's and 30's in college, or recently out. and typically are looking for used boats that are race ready at at reasonable price. |
