Welcome to the Level Design 30 Class Association Homepage

March 2007

In response to the present discussion about the need for a "box rule" 30 foot class of sailing boat, a group of like minded sailors and designers have formulated a level rating rule based on the Mount Gay 30 Rule. This new rule will be called the Level Design 30 Rule or LD30 Rule, and is open to review by the public. It can be reviewed here.  More to come soon!

The Level Design 30 Rule is basically a stripped down version of the ex Mount Gay 30 Rule with the emphasis placed on reducing the cost of the boats.  The LD30 Rule is not intended to render previous Mount Gay 30's obsolete but due to many technology advances the new generation boats would be more competitive. Obviously, there is also the possibility to modify an older boat, which would be a huge cost savings compared to new construction.

"Bring it on its just what we need to spice up racing under systems including irc(/irm)"

"I've just bought the Mount Gay 30 "Lik Lik" here in Sydney Australia, one of three built. There are also 2 of the MBD's, two Lyons and there is also one designed by Malcolm Runnels Yacht design that was built in Perth, but is also now based in Sydney. Interesting to hear about this new rule and would like to be kept informed of developements." - Lee Condell
