Cruising Tips for the S2 7.9 :
By Bev and Ivan Murphy #151
Fall 1997
HI from Escape Velocity
The summer of '97 we cruised 90 miles of the lower Columbia River from Portland to Astoria Oregon for 2 weeks and also trailered her to Puget Sound where we spent 5 weeks.
Life aboard is enhanced by a Sunbrella boom tent and forward hatch cover. Both of these are secured
by bungie-cord and hooked to the life lines. Rain, dew and hot sun can be kept out making small boating a
lot more comfortable.
Cooking is done on the deck on a propane Coleman stove (2 burner). A new 5 pound propane tank
secured at the aft end of the cockpit lasts 2 or 3 weeks and most meals are one-pot. Adding aluminum
foam-core pliable insulation to the inside of the icebox this year seemed to help make blocks of ice last
longer.
We use king size sheets on the V-berth for the comfort of home, topped with a comforter or open
sleeping bag. Sheets stay put when you tie a knot at the 3 corners.
Cruising on the S2 7.9 is comfortable for weeks at a time.
