The Lake Norman Yacht Club once again hosted a well run mid-winter regatta in late March. Morning temperatures started in the upper 30's and clear skies that warmed to the 50's by race time. Unfortunately, the first race was finished in very light air and lack of wind prevented any additional racing on Saturday. After starting out calm, Sunday presented sufficient breeze for the race committee to get three races in.
A total of 14 S2 7.9's came out for the weekend and competition was tight. Out of 4 races, no one boat was able to get more than one first place finish. Gary Shoemaker (Crime Scene) of Detroit showed that consistency pays and ended the weekend with first place.
Make plans for attending the 2000 mid-winters at Lake Norman for more exciting racing. If you are bringing your boat to any of the Florida winter races, Lake Norman Yacht Club invites you to park your boat at their club in anticipation of next year's regatta.
