Built by S2 Yachts, in Holland Michigan, the S2 7.9 meter yacht was designed by Scott Graham & Eric Schlageter and was originally put into production in 1981. The original production run lasted thru 1986 with additional limited edition builds occurring in 1990 & 1993. Approximately 550 hulls have been built.

The 7.9 is a stable, stiff, fractionally rigged sloop. Along with it's open spacious interior, retractable keel, and deck stepped mast, the trailerable 7.9 is exceptionally well suited for both racing and cruising.

The S2 7.9 Meter Class Association is active across the continent; from the east coast (Chesapeake Bay) to the west coast (California & Vancouver) and North of the border (Ontario) to the southern border (Florida & Texas).

Opportunities for one design competition with the S2 7.9 are continually growing. There are currently 26 chartered Fleets. Many of the local fleets have one design racing programs. The S2 7.9 Class Championship Regatta(CCR) and Midwinters are held each year as well as several Regional regattas including the St. Petersburg, Annapolis, Detroit and Chicago NOOD's. The S2 7.9 continues to have a strong presence in handicap regattas ie, MORC and PHRF as well.

Annapolis NOODS Results April 25 - 27, 2008
"We had a tough day today, we had a 4,1,2 on Friday, which put us in first place," said Greg Dupier, sailing on Horizon, an S2 7.9 owned by Bob and Lisa Fleck, but we had a few tactical errors today, and it was a challenge to make it around the course. We dropped back to fourth today, so we've got some work cut out for us tomorrow. We're going to definitely battle for third, I think second or first will require a bit of luck, but hopefully things will go our way, we'll see what happens."
