The 2008 Nationals have come to one of the premiere sailing clubs of the Midwest, Sandusky Sailing Club. The Club has its dinghy roots back in the 1930s with the advent of the popular Interlake One Design dinghy. From there it has hosted many major regattas including the Thistle Nationals, Interlake Nationals, Tartan Ten Nationals and MORC Internationals. Just like the 2004 Nationals in Cleveland, PRO Ken Legler, a member of the Collegiate Sailing Hall of Fame and much sought after for events such as Key West Race Week, will run a top-notch Championships. Ken started his collegiate career in Jets and calls himself “Forever a Jet 14 Fan.”
Besides sailing, the Sandusky area offers you a great place for a summer vacation or break. Cedar Point Amusement Park, self-proclaimed “Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” has the tallest, most frightening coasters you’ll dare ride. And the western end of Lake Erie is a gem with its islands and interesting coast. A short ferry ride will put you into another time zone of golf-cart transportation, parks and wineries. Just be careful you don’t have too much fun and miss the ferry back from Put-in-Bay and its Round House bar! It should not be too difficult to find accommodations, even at the last moment.
The 2008 Jet 14 Nationals promises to be a watershed year for District II of the Jet 14 Class. With the addition of a fleet at Hoover, growth in Cleveland and possibly even one more Ohio fleet, this Nationals should not lack in numbers nor talent. The only thing lacking now is your registration and commitment to an absolutely great time sailing in a place destined for Jet 14 sailing. Check out the Jet14.com website for more information, registration and necessary forms.
