We had a terrific meeting
at the J/Boat Rendezvous at the Pearson Composite plant on March
4, 2006. We had 11 J/42 owners in attendance - a record
turnout I am told! The meeting was led by Bernie Coyne of
Amigo VI, J/42 #3.
The meeting began with everyone introducing
themselves and then Bernie led us through the new J/42 class
website. Bernie is always looking for contributions for
the website so don't hesitate to
email Bernie a picture or
a story or any type of request. We also highlighted the
new class discussion group that has been setup. Right now
it is all about the Bermuda Race but any topics are welcome!
Next up was Rod Johnstone, who is the co-founder
of J/Boats and is the designer of the J/42. He discussed
his adventures in previous Newport-Bermuda races and what a
thoroughly enjoyable experience they were!
Finally we had a discussion on the cruising
options we could pursue as a class. The consensus was to
try for a long weekend type event - one up North in the Portland
area and another in the south in the Newport area.
Bernie will be looking for volunteers to co-ordinate these in
each of those areas. Please send Bernie your suggestions.
We talked a little about boat maintenance issues. If
anyone has any used or forgotten KVH displays that they no
longer need, please get in contact with
Bernie.
The PowerPoint
presentation from the meeting is also available for those
that could not make it. regards, Bernie
Coyne
