Roland Trim

Roland Trim is an engineeer working with Arup. Cherub sailing is his light relief from specialist work on strucutres that really should not stand up, things that have broken and/or wobble too much.

Roland's wife (Hayley) is responsible for the Cherub addiction. When looking for a boat to learn to sail in she chose a 50kg flying machine on the grounds that she can lift and right boat from capsize (she is 5ft short and under 50kg). The couple originally bought The Flying Trifle and after two years of massive grins bought Born Slippy. Base on Brick Lane, Roland and Hayley lovingly produce very shiny foils and carbon spars in the back of a transit van, these are referred to as “Bethnal Green Marine” Products.

Roland elder brother Laurence Trim has a collection of boats including 2605 and Sgt Murphey (AKA Last Amber Dragon).

Please feel free to Contact. us or call if you have any questions. Things we have recent experience (although not necessary expertise in):

  • Using accoya as a timber structural core for foils
  • Making and breaking foam cored foils
  • Using the class boom mandrel
  • Making and breaking bow sprits (both conventional and telescopic)
  • Spraying boat
  • Making spinakers

Limerick

There was a young couple called Trim

Who lived their life full to the brim

They took to the looks

Of a Cherub called Oops

And now they have learnt how to swim!

(Roland's Dad)

“Sailing a Cherub in enough wind to be not entirely in control of one's destiny is for most of us why we do it.” Bill Deeley
