2002/2004 Various Events

Mango Jam - Gavin Sims and Simon Goodwin. On the water exercises at the 2004 training day at Stokes bay had to be cancelled due to an excess of breeze. That didn't stop Gav and Simon launching or Daryl from following them with a camera...

Halo Jones - Alex Adams and Jim Champ, in 20knots of breeze at the Grafham Grand Prix. What I like about this one is that if you look at the full size image on the left of the shot you can see the spray from the previous wave still in the air... Also compare and contrast the rig to the early 90s era rig shown on the same boat in earlier pictures.

Shiney Beast - Andy Paterson, here sailing with Lucy Lee. Andy finds he gets the best vmg from his P7 in a breeze by sitting slightly inboard like this. There's certainly no lack of dynamic lift as the bows head skyward during a development sailing exercise in November 2003.
Photo: Claire Spens
Mango Jam - Gavin Sims and Simon Goodwin, hurtle round Queen Mary Reservoir to finish an unlucky second in the 2003 Bloody Mary. The eventual winner, in a 49er, described them as being "blisteringly fast" downwind. He wasn't wrong.

Mango Jam again, heading upwind at the Bloody Mary. While Andy Paterson has super performance in light moderate airs, this is surely the boat of the moment when there is some breeze about.

There was lots of tight racing at the Championships, here Pasta Frenzy (Dave Roe & Clare Warren) and Aqua Marina (Phil Alderson & Michael Garrington) battle hard in a good breeze.

Halo Jones at Grafham How not to do it! Jim Champ and Ben Brown let the boat heel too much during an overtaking manoeuvre at the Grafham Grand Prix, Dec 2001
Photo: Gerald New/www.madforsailing.com
Halo Jones at Grafham 2 These two - also at Grafham and of Ben and Jim sailing 2641 rather more upright - are interesting because they give an insight into hull behaviour. In the top picture 2641 is flat out in around 10 knots of breeze, the hull is reasonably level fore and aft and there is minimal spray.
Photo: Champion Marine Photography
Halo Jones at Grafham 2 In this picture they are bearing away and thus slowing down ready to gybe. You can see that the boat is coming off the plane, there's loads more spray, the bow is more up in the air and the boat is sailing up a huge bow wave - loads more drag...
