Right, i've recently realised some fairly fundamental things:
1) the garage at home is never going to be empty enough to fit a cherub or any spars inside.
2) Expoxying/Carbonning (i apologise in advance for spelling) is completely pointless outside in a british winter
3) Sweet Dreams is still missing a rudder stock and (more importantly) a bowsprit.
4) Left unhindered chances of sailing in, certainly the early events of, next year is looking shaky.
So to completely wimp out and spin this around i've decided i'm probably looking to get a proffesionally built spar from somewhere. I reckon bodging or sourcing a stock will be much easier so this is the main thing stopping me sailing next year. Anyway some simple questions i could do with a hand on, does anyone make custom sized tubes? if so who? and who would people recomend?

What spars are you looking for?
PS for storage, I'll move the following to the site when I get to work. WL's mast from the top - spreaders at 2m(1.98), 3.575m and a goose at 5.805. The spreaders are 40cm long and the sweep is 18cm (both from the nearest bit of mast tube).

Sorry, i'm after a new kite pole / bowsprit. The last one snapped as we powered it up on the sea off Southport and currently using the old one and 97 kite.

Sorry forgot to say: Buying things made from fabricators is in no way uncheruby or wimpish. For me the whole concept of the Cherub fleet is the idea that you can choose from buying/commmissioning or making. I do things so I can enjoying the sailing and every effort to making it open to as many people as are brave enough to hook on... Rant over. Hope you find what you need.  |

Here here, I agree with Slippy.
Whilst I can bimble long hours like the best of long hour bimblers I am not a builder and definately fall into the category 'sailor, not builder'. Lots of respect for those who can and they must get fantastic satisfaction but ultimately it has to be all about the sailing - for me at least. So boatwork / re-building should be geared towards that with solutions being whatever is the most efficient way to get back on the water with reliable equipment.

Hi Ross,
How long are we talking, the mast on Dreams is quite far forward so looking at around 4m for the length of the pole. Yeah if you could give me some contact details that would be great.
And to everyone, out of interest, proffesionally who am i looking at contacting that could make me one? I know of matrix aardvark, etc but do they all do little custom jobs or do i have to go elsewhere?

Laminate stuff in the house! We resorted to this idea over christmas.
Since your mast rake is pretty fixed and the kite shape is prety permanent I would suggest the length of your pole should reflect your home made pole. If that was the correct length.
I forgot that your pole is supported at the hull and not the snout so would be longer.
You want to get the diameters and taper right when you spec the pole.
Good luck, If you decide you want to have another go at building with some help I think Roland and I have enough experience to help over come your previous failures.

Thanks for the offer, i have no doubt that with a bit of help (and using epoxy) it can be done. However my parents would have a major issue with me laminating inside so until i move out don't think its an issue. Going to measure the correct distances, diameters etc this weekend to hopefully put the order in after next pay day.
